Vagamon

To   Vagamon
                                     “Scotland of Asia”
Vagamon cannot be defined through words. The twisty smooth roads with misty hills itself creates the ambience to your journey.1100m above sea level, it is located is located in the outskirts of western Ghats surrounded by three main hills-Thangal ,Kurishumala and Murugan hills. Vagamon is well known for its hills. Even theses three hills depicts the three main religions in Kerala Hinduism, Muslimism and Christianity which reflects the cultural background

Vagamon itself consists of different tourist attractions. According to me those or not just mere tourist places. They are way beyond that meaning. Kolahalamedu” which is the most scenic place in Vagamon consists of deep trenches and a vast area of meadow. The soothening chilled wind just melt your minds. The word Kolahalamedu itself means “meadow of sounds” –due to constant sound made by the wind. There is a suicide point near this grassy meadows. The view was amazing. And when that view combines with the sunset it was undefinable.

There are many monasteries and the pastoral farms nearby. The Indo-Swiss project dairy farm provides around 1400-1700 liters of milk daily and breeds livestock, and these are managed by the monastery. The entrance to these farms are somehow restricted due to the reckless behaviors of tourists to the nature. It is a sad site to see plastic water bottles and wasted food all around the beautiful green landscapes. The monastery employs many poor people around that area and consists of different breeds of cattle. By traveling about 1 km from the entrance gate of the monastery we can observe the scenic beauty of Vagamon.

Another marvelous place to visit in Vagamon is the Pine valley forest. Where you can enjoy the dense pine forest. You can hear the murmuring of wind and it is heard all over the valley. Almost an entire hill is covered by these trees and sunlight hardly kisses the ground .
